Patek Philippe presents the rose gold Aquanaut chronograph
As part of its Watches and Wonders 2023 new arrivals, Patek Philippe has added a rose gold Aquanaut chronograph to its catalog to join the existing steel and white gold versions. The new Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph Reference 5968R-001 comes in an 18k rose gold case with a sunburst sunburst dial in brown and black and a brown composite strap.
Like its siblings, the new 2023 Aquanaut Chronograph 5968R is housed in a 120-meter water-resistant case that measures 42.2mm in diameter and 11.9mm thick. The right side of the case houses the chronograph pushers flanking the winding crown. The distinctive round octagonal bezel is polished and satin-brushed, while the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal.
The new rose gold case houses a sunburst brown dial with black gradient edges and, of course, the signature Aquanaut convex grid pattern on the dial. The dial is embellished with Arabic numerals and baton hands, all in gold to complement the case and coated with luminescent coating. Adjacent to the hours are figures filled with luminous light for added legibility in the dark. The caseback of the new Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph with its customary sapphire crystal reveals the self-winding CH 28‑520 C flyback chronograph movement. Thanks to the movement’s column-wheel drive and vertical disc clutch system, the central chronograph seconds hand can double as a seconds hand and run continuously without any negative impact on the function of the movement. Patek Philippe unveils the Calatrava 6007G, a watch of color and sport
In 2020, to celebrate its move into a new factory, Patek Philippe released the Calatrava 6007A, a sporty version of one of its most classic models. That piece was limited to just 1,000 examples, but for Watches and Wonders 2023, the brand is revisiting the design. The new Patek Philippe Calatrava 6007G represents a more exuberant side of the brand with an updated movement, black background and pop of color, and a very sporty strap.

The cases of the new Calatrava 6007G are all white gold (6007A is steel), fully polished, with wide bezels and domed sapphire crystals. Measuring 40 millimeters in diameter and only 9.17 millimeters thick, the size and gentle curves of the case certainly make this watch beautiful on the wrist. The pull-out crown bears the Patek Philippe logo, and the case is water-resistant to 30 meters. While the 30m fits within the Calatrava range, it is not in keeping with the sporty design of these models. Carbon fiber graphics are printed on the leather straps and contrast stitching matches the color of the dial for an edgier look; they come with simple handle buckles. It’s not often that you find a strap that matches the dial so perfectly, but with stitching and embossing, the 6007G does just that.
Patek Philippe has had a lot of fun with these dials. Pops of yellow, red, and blue contrast with the textured black dial, perhaps the brand’s most fun in recent years. The outer minute track is reminiscent of the tachymeter track of a racing chronograph, while the applied (and streamer!) Arabic numerals take this watch away from the typical simple elegance of Calatrava. The unobtrusive date replaces the numeral at 3 o’clock. Surrounding the center of the dial is a very thin fluted ring with colored arrows pointing inwards at each hour with a stamped carbon fiber motif. The phone has a color-matched seconds hand, and polished hour and minute hands filled with luminous light.
The three watches featured in this article are equipped with Patek Philippe’s new Caliber 26‑330 S C. Visible through the sapphire case back, the movement has the excellent finishing and solid gold oscillating weight you’d expect from the brand. The movement beats at 28,800 beats and has a power reserve of between 35 and 45 hours (the lower end of the power reserve is pretty low for a modern movement). The movement has a stop-seconds function (until a few years ago this was not a necessity for Patek Philippe), and it is also equipped with Patek Philippe’s patented Spiromax balance spring, which is resistant to temperature and shock. I’ve often criticized Patek Philippe for staying stuck in the past, or what the brand calls “tradition.” While I’m not convinced that’s the case, these vibrant new Calatravas showcase a more playful, modern side of the brand. With color, texture, and perhaps the sportiest strap the brand has ever made, this is the one Patek Philippe strap I can get my hands on.
