Two very interesting novelties from Ulysse Nardin

Get your freaks.

In 2022, Ulysse Nardin will expand the Freak collection with two new models: the Freak S and the Freak X Aventurine. Both watches incorporate elements of Freak’s unconventional design philosophy that debuted in 2001, but both new models have upgraded internals. The Freak X Aventurine uses movements developed from two predecessors in the Freak series, the UN-118 and UN-250, and includes a carousel, giving it the familiar Freak look. The Freak S, on the other hand, uses an all-new movement, UN-251, with a host of technical features such as a tilted twin oscillator and a vertical differential that puts it in another league entirely.

Common to both the Freak X Aventurine and the Freak S is a massive silicon balance wheel, which is on full display from the dial side. In the case of the Freak S, two silicon balance wheels are shown. As the nomenclature dictates, the Freak X Aventurine’s balance wheel floats on a dark blue aventurine dial. (The legendary aventurine originated when a glassmaker in Venice accidentally spilled copper filings into molten glass, creating the sparkling effect of this particular glass.) fake luxury watches

In the Freak S, the technical wizardry of the new movement is placed front and center for dramatic effect.

While the Freak X Aventurine was a great addition to the Freak line, the Freak S turned the whole thing upside down. The concept was developed by Carole Forestier-Kasapi, the powerful watchmaker behind some of the most exciting recent innovations at Cartier and TAG Heuer. Her signature style is to incorporate unexpected cutting-edge technology into the movement, while retaining a touch of traditional elegance. Ulysse Nardin fake

Aside from the wild aesthetic, the people behind the project added a layer of interest to the watch. The project with Forestier-Kasapi is Ludwig Oechslin, the genius behind ochs und Junior. Not many people in the industry can come up with it and execute it – something as outrageous as Freak S. Forestier-Kasapi conceptualizing a watch and making sure it’s actually possible to create and execute Oechslin in terms of production.

The Freak collection has been reimagining traditional movement engineering since its inception, and more than 20 years later, Ulysse Nardin is still finding ways to surprise us all.
