New Salmon Dial Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172G
Building on the existing 5172G platform, it now comes with a lovely salmon pink dial.
A chronograph in a classic style, the 5172G is one of Patek Philippe’s finest chronographs, a perfect demonstration of the brand’s prowess in this field. It debuted in a beautiful navy blue attire in 2019, but at Watches & Wonders 2022, Patek Philippe upped the ante again with a luscious salmon pink. This is the Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172G.
Hand-wound chronographs have always played an important role at Patek Philippe, and the 5172G is no exception. While the 5172G is a change from the 5170’s classic Calatrava style case, it features the 5320’s superb Art Deco style lugs. This combination makes for an attractive watch, especially in this salmon hue .
In terms of specs, there are no changes from the previous brown or blue 5172G as we still have a white gold case 41mm wide and 11.45mm high with sapphire crystal on both sides. The biggest change is obviously the dial, which is now a luscious salmon pink. It still features the iconic dual register layout, applied platinum indexes, syringe-style hands (also platinum) and a tachymeter scale on the periphery. The color change does transform it from a sophisticated but slightly casual ensemble to a more formal side.
Movement-wise, we again see the 29-535 PS movement, which is of course homemade and carries the Patek Philippe cheap seal of quality. This hand-wound mechanical chronograph movement uses 270 components, including 33 jewels. This complex movement indicates the central hours and minutes, small seconds (PS designation in the movement name) and central chronograph seconds, with a 30-minute counter at three o’clock. The finish is of the highest level, with hand-chamfered and polished edges, Côtes de Genève, rounded textures, gold sleeves and more. The overall look is really impressive, especially his new dial.
